Breast milk is the most complete food for infants. For SOS Breastfeeding Association (Associação SOS Amamentação), there is no reason not to ensure the “mission” of feeding your baby. Ask questions and live motherhood to its fullest.

The mission of SOS Breastfeeding is to support mothers and their families, in their doubts and difficulties, "helping them to breastfeed successfully, promoting their capacities and stimulating the mother-baby relationship through the bond of breastfeeding", according to Isabel Rute Reinaldo, president of the association.

For the breastfeeding counsellor and trainer, "we are aware that breastfeeding, despite being a natural process, is not always easy and more specific and personalised support is needed", adds Isabel Rute Reinaldo.

HELP AVAILABLE 24 HOURS

The Association has a network of volunteers who distribute information, provide telephone support and make home visits throughout the country. “As we have several volunteers, available 24 hours a day, a mother can reach us, even if it is in the middle of the night, by calling or sending a message to one of the available numbers”, explains the lactation leader and counsellor. A fact that, as she underlines, "can be reassuring for mothers and families".

The shared assistance between parents, explains Isabel Rute Reinaldo, is very important, since it creates an involvement that results in a higher rate of success in breastfeeding. According to the counsellor, "an experienced mother with specific training in breastfeeding can be a precious help to boost the confidence of the new mother in her ability to breastfeed and help to overcome any difficulties and doubts".
