Holon Pharmacies launch New Medicine Service

The Holon Pharmacies have launched the innovative New Medicine Service, where customers with chronic or long-term illnesses are closely accompanied during four weeks, after embarking on a new course of medication.

 

 “With this service our customers can discuss any doubts they may have about their medication and thus become more knowledgeable about the treatment. It is aimed at people with chronic illnesses, and who are starting a new medication.

 

We provide a personal follow through, either in person or by telephone, which we believe will make all the difference. The service includes two appointments with your pharmacist: one between 7 and 14 days after starting the treatment, and the second one, between 14 and 21 days afterwards. Both appointments last some 20 to 30 minutes” explains Maria João Mendes, from the Holon Pharmacy Intervention.

 

The New Medicine Service has several objectives:

• Ensure the treatment meets expectations;
• Improve the therapy compliance;
• Help prevent adverse events and problems related to medication;
• Increase the patient’s involvement in his healthcare process, by supporting him or her in decision-making concerning his treatment, and how to manage it him or herself.
