COVID-19: THE NEW RULES AS LOCKDOWN EASES

COVID-19: THE NEW RULES AS LOCKDOWN EASES

Friday, 22 de May de 2020 - 17:27

After a month and a half of almost total confinement, there is a new plan for the progressive return to normality. The return to the “new normal” implies the adoption of measures to prevent the increase in the number of people infected with COVID-19.

As lockdown eases, measures will take place in three phases - 4th May, 18th May and 1st June, but there are rules that do not change: regular hand hygiene, social distancing and, most recently, the use of a mask indoors. Previously, its use was recommended for risk groups.

Now, with the lockdown rules becoming less restrictive, circulation and contact between people increases. However, and because the pandemic is still active, the return to the “new normal” implies the adoption of measures to prevent the increase in the number of people infected with COVID-19.

Know the General Rules that you must respect:

  1. Prohibition of events or gatherings with more than 10 people. There is also a rule of maximum capacity of 5 people/100m2 in closed spaces;
  2. In public transport, the capacity is limited to 2/3 of the occupation and mandatory use of a mask is imposed;
  3. In public services, customer service is provided by prior appointment and the use of a mask is mandatory;
  4. In commercial areas, restaurants, schools and social facilities, the use of a mask is mandatory;

What precautions to take before returning to work:

  1. If you have any symptoms associated with COVID-19 you should not return to your workplace. Contact SNS 24 helpline (808 24 24 24) and assess if there is no risk for you or others;
  2. If you had close contact with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases, contact the SNS 24 helpline before returning to the workplace for guidance regarding your specific situation;
  3.  If you belong to a risk group, you should preferably keep working from home;

Health and safety in the workplace:

  1. The return of workers should be phased, assessing whether it is possible to opt for working from home;
  2. Ensure the availability of soap and water or hand sanitiser in convenient locations;
  3. Reduce contacts between workers, between workers and customers and/or suppliers;
  4. Reduce contacts between workers and other people during breaks and common spaces;
  5. Reinforce hygiene practices of personal protective equipment (PPE) and work clothes.
