APCP warns: Palliative Care is not end of life care!

Thursday, 25 de October de 2018 - 15:26

The Portuguese Association for Palliative Care (APCP) launches an awareness campaign “Let’s carry on writing this story”. The campaign aims to inform and raise awareness about the importance of palliative care in ensuring and strengthening human dignity during illness.

“The campaign aims to spread the word about the true meaning of palliative care, in preventing and relieving suffering, improving the patients’ and their carers’ quality of life. It also aims to recognize the importance of carers in the entire process of chronic, complex and limiting illnesses.

It is wrong to think that this type of care should only be available at the end of patients’ lives. Palliative treatments should be an integral part of the treatment and cure of illness, from the moment it is diagnosed”, explains Dr Duarte Soares, President of APCP.

This campaign includes several events:

  • 9th National Palliative Care Congress, from 25th to 27th October, in the Fundação Dr. António Cupertino de Miranda, in Oporto;
  • Public fundraising in the Holon Pharmacies (from 15th October to 30th November)
  • Sale of the “Palis” mascot keyring in the Holon Pharmacies; in the Dolce Vita Shopping Centre’s Solidarity Corner, between 4th and 7th October; and also online on the APCP website (www.apcp.com.pt). The mascot costs 5 euros.
